Red Bull Ring |
This is my proposal fo the redevelopment of the A1 Ring. Since 2003, when it held its last F1 race the circuit has fallen into a state of isrepair. However, after it was bought by Austrian Red Bull boss, Dietrich Mateschitz there has been talk of a redevopment of the facilities.
People often argue that the Österreichring was 'ruined' when it was orininaly reprofiled. Although not a supporter of Herman Tilkes designes, and having done many laps of both the new and old track on rFactor, I wouldnt say that I dislike the A1 ring compared to the Österreichring. Some of the corners on the A1 ring eg. Lauda and Rindt would deserve a place on the old track. In my design I have tried to include the fast, flowing nature of the Österreichring while continuing to use most of the A1 ring, but at the same time adding a new section that I believe will add to the fast and flowing nature that most fans seen to yern for.
Having studdied the surrounding terrain of the track I have come up with my own design for the rebuilt circuit, based on early ideas from Red Bulls own development process. My design focuses, as do others, on including more of the old Österreichring and some of its features. Now, Turn 2, instead of being a right hairpin that joined the old circuit, will go left up the hill and into the forrest. The track continues throught the forest untill tuns 3, 4, 5, and 6. Over a creat, Turn 3 is a down hill flick which goes into left at turn 4 with a crest after. This leads into turn 5, another downhill flick. The track joins the old circuit at turn 6 with a high speed right hander, taken flat in an f1 car. The track follows the old layout onto the old Dr. Tiroch Kurve. This will remain a high speed banked corner, paved ahd gravel runoff has been added to the outside, and there is an optional chicane that would controll speeds throught what has the potential to be a very dangerous chrner. The track continues on to the back straight, where a chicane has been added, to controll speeds out of the Dr. Tiroch Kurve and to bring the old track back into line with the new A1 ring, While bunching cars up to better the over-taking opertunities at Gosser. From the chicane the track goes over a crest and rejoins the newer circuit at Remus. From here the circuit continues along the old A1 ring layout.
